The Igor Shesterkin saga has yet to end, as there's been a report that Maxim Moliver has countered GM Chris Drury's offer.

The original offer was at Carey Price's current pay:

The offer was eminently reasonable, the offer anointing Shesterkin as the NHL's highest-paid goaltender ever, surpassing the per-year record of $10.5M awarded to Carey Price in advance of 2018-19. The Post has reported that Shesterkin is seeking $12M per.
.

But with weeks passed since the original offer was sent, Moliver and Shesterkin haven't relented on a total close to $12 Million AAV.

Apparently, they sent over another offer, which was a total of $11.5 Million AAV, still far above Price's current contract.

While Stan Fischler of the Hockey News is laughing at the audacity of Shesterkin's ask, it's not a mystery why he's dead set on that figure.

Tom Castro from THW illustrates:

«We've been under siege a little bit too much and relying on our goaltenders too much,» Laviolette said after the Buffalo game, in an understatement that could apply to any of the past 10 Rangers seasons or so.

Shesterkin is the true #1 goalie in New York and arguably the NHL even after the one-time catastrophe against the Sabres.

While Fischler does disagree with the ask, and honestly with a cash-strapped team it's hard not to see where a GM is coming from, but he's your workhorse.

Jonathan Quick alone could handle the workload like he used at, and is on his way to age 39. Eventually retirement.

While he can guffaw and laugh at Moliver's counter-offer, it doesn't escape the fact that GM Chris Drury is the one who built this team who at times can produce like they used to.

But are still gelling, and have lapses that show the weaknesses, which Drury has refused to address.

The contradictions are play are one to play plenty of word games with, and honestly, if this is the end of this Rangers core, some of the players are equally to blame.

Not the guy who put the Rangers on his shoulders for a herculean effort to backstop a poor defensive squad.

It's unrealistic to say we're going to let Shesterkin walk, especially if you lose him for nothing.

He's the guy.
