As the New York Rangers faced a disappointing end to their playoff run in the Eastern Conference Finals they are currently working on reshaping their roster for a better chance next season.
So with that being said, According to Frank Seravalli of the Daily Faceoff, the Rangers are set to buyout the contract of 31-year old forward, Barclay Goodrow, as the first buyout window of the offseason will open 48 hours after the winning team claims the name of the Stanley Cup Champions.
Goodrow still has three years remaining on his contract with an $3.64 million AAV. However, despite his great efforts in the playoffs with scoring 6 goals in 16 games and 4 goals in 80 regular season games the New York Rangers believe paying $3.6 million for a fourth-line center is way to much.
With the Rangers buying out Goodrow's contract they could receive a unique salary cap credit of $247,222 for next season and increase their cap to $88.247 million.
Definitely the right move for the Rangers as it gives them a little more wiggle room to acquire stronger and better forwards that they desperately need.
