Jake Oettinger's Four Nation Face-Off Mask Recalls a Legendary New York Rangers Goalie
Jake Oettingerhas been the Dallas Stars starting goalie since 2022. Now, as a goalie for Team USA, he's made the tournament special by honoring his favorite goalie, former Rangers legend Henrik Lundqvist.
Henrik Lundqvist is a legendary NHL goalie, and will always be recognized by hockey fans everywhere who were amazed by his performances.
Despite his lack of Stanley Cups, he's won the hearts of many who play the game and one of them is Dallas Stars goalie Jake Oettinger.
«That's kind of a pinch-me moment,» Oettinger said. «Hank's my favorite goalie of all time so to get to be talking to you and Hank now is pretty cool and a dream come true. So I look up to you a lot and it's just an honor to have you say those kind words about me.»
«Thanks Jake, I'm a big fan of your game,» Lundqvist said. «I really enjoy watching you play. Good luck down the stretch.»
Oettinger will be competing in the Four Nations Face-Off with Team USA, along with goalie
Jeremy Swayman.
Unlike Swayman, he'll be paying tribute to his favorite goalie Henrik Lundqvist with his helmet.
The helmet pays homage to Henrik Lundqvist who had Lady Liberty on his mask during his time there.
The Lady Liberty logo represents New York in more ways than one, as it's not only symbolism for the US as a whole but as a symbol of freedom.
Now, with Hank wearing it on the side of one of his masks, it'll be symbolic of a childhood hero who Lundqvist embodied for Oettinger.
The Four Nations Face-Off will begin on February 12th and end on February 20th.
The Tournament itself will take place in TD Garden, and the Bell Centre.
It'll be the first best-on-best competition we haven't seen since 2016's World Cup of Hockey.
