Jonathan Quick issues an emotional statement after consecutive shutouts at 38-years old
New York Rangers backup goaltender Jonathan Quick issues a statement on almost reaching a milestone no other American born player has achieved.
Sunday night, the New York Rangers pulled off a 2-0 victory over the Seattle Kraken with Jonathan Quick recording a back-to-back shutout this season.
Head coach Peter Laviolette has recently made a commitment to start playing both of his goaltenders so that Igor Shesterkin can get some rest, a technique that clearly has been working.
The 38-year-old goalie managed to stop all 24 of the Kraken's shots, and is now leading the NHL with a .970 SV% and 0.91 GAA.
Along with now only being three wins away from becoming the 15th goalie in league history to reach 400.
After Jonathan Quick pull off his consecutive shutout the season, he was faced with the media and spoke about what it meant to be only three wins away from 400.
Here's what Mollie Walker of the New York Post has shared:
#NYR Jonathan Quick on needing 3 more wins to 400:
«You don't really put too much thought into it. You're honored to have those numbers. At the end of the day, as a goalie, you're very dependent on your team in front of you. All those numbers really mean is I've played with some great players and teams that value winning more than anything. I consider myself very grateful and lucky to have played with all those guys over the course of my career.»
Jonathan Quick has also became the fourth goalie in the past 15 years to earn back-to-back shutouts at the age of 38-years old.
Tonight, Jonathan Quick became just the fourth goalie in the past 15 years to earn consecutive shutouts at the age of 38 or older, joining Mike Smith, Martin Brodeur and Dwayne Roloson.
The last time he did it was Oct. 18-22 in 2011 (3) with the Kings when he was 25.
The New Yorks Rangers will play next on Tuesday night against the Vancouver Canucks at 10PM.
