In Tuesday's game at Madison Square Garden, Kaapo Kakko scored his first goal since November 20, contributing to the New York Rangers' 5-2 victory over the Seattle Kraken.
Kakko, who had missed 21 games due to a lower-body injury, expressed the silver lining of the break, allowing him time to reflect on his game and return stronger.
The Rangers' goaltender,
Igor Shesterkin, made 29 saves and secured his second consecutive win, highlighting his improved performance and confidence.
The game showcased Blake Wheeler's two-goal performance and
Mika Zibanejad's and
Adam Fox's contributions with two assists each for the Rangers.
On the other side,
Jordan Eberle and
Jared McCann scored for the Kraken, who faced challenges executing key opportunities, according to their coach Dave Hakstol.
The Kraken, dealing with player absences due to injuries and illness, look to regroup before their final game of a six-game road trip against the Edmonton Oilers.
The match also saw
Vincent Trocheck's power-play goal,
Erik Gustafsson's quick response after the Kraken's equalizer, and Kakko's pivotal one-timer goal, boosting his confidence.
Despite McCann's late power-play goal for the Kraken, Wheeler sealed the deal with an empty-net goal, securing the Rangers' 5-2 victory.
With key players returning and a positive outlook, the Rangers aim to maintain their momentum in the upcoming games.
