It was reported by NHL Insider Kevin Weekes today, that GM Chris Drury and the New York Rangers have signed Shesterkin to an 8-year contract. The deal is reported to pay between $11.5 Million to $12 Million AAV for the superstar goalie.
Igor Shesterkin has been the Rangers #1 goalie since the exodus of Henrik Lundqvist. He's being paid handsomely for his efforts in the net, which helped push the team to the Eastern Conference finals in 2023-2024.
This season Shesterkin's been a reliable backstop, as he's played 18 games for the Rangers this season, with an 8-9-1 record, 3.05 GAA, and an .908 save percentage.
He's done his best to shoulder the burden of one of the weakest Rangers teams constructed and maintained a save percentage above .900 all the while.
With now ex-Captain Jacob Trouba out, the Rangers found an extra $8 Million to allocate to signing their Vezina Trophy-winning goalie.
This deal puts him above the Montreal Canadiens Carey Price $10.5 Million dollar deal, as the highest-paid goalie in the NHL.
He will wear a Blueshirt for the next season, and will hopefully be the one to backstop them to a Stanley Cup championship.
