After rampant speculation over the last 12 hours, The New York Rangers have traded their captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Urho Vaakananien and a 2025 4th round pick.

The Rangers were also able to trade Trouba's entire $8 million AAV salary to the Ducks which has two years remaining.

This trade seemed to be a foregone conclusion as general manager Chris Drury was unhappy with his team after they lost to the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

During the summer months, Drury was making his attempt to reshape the team by placing Barclay Goodrow on waivers and was claimed by the Sharks.

He tried to trade Trouba to the Detroit Red Wings but that deal failed to materialize. There always seemed to be some animosity and the team hasn't performed well since.

Vaakanainen was a 2017 1st round pick by the Boston Bruins, 18th overall. Standing at 6'2 and 205 lbs he has only played 5 games this season with 1 assist and played 13:36 of average icetime.

Vaakanainen hold a one year deal worth 1.1 million dollars and will be a restricted free agent next season.

This will open the door for Drury and the Rangers to make more deals as he is ready and open for business. It's likely this will be a retool to help jump start his team and have hope they will make the playoffs this season after posting their best regular season ever last year.

Rangers fans will need to wait and watch as this all unfolds. The Rangers will be back in action tonight as they will be home for their archrival, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Game time will be at 7:30pm eastern.
