Recent reports have surfaced from a former NHL assistant GM Steve Werier as he has proposed a blockbuster three-way trade, that would see the Rangers acquiring a top star in the league.

Former NHL executive Steve Werier has been away from hockey for some time but recently he has proposed a blockbuster trade between three-teams.

Werier was hired by the Florida Panthers back in 2016 and was fired in 2017 right before the Vegas Golden Knights game expansion draft.

Steve Werier has been relieved of his duties as FLA assistant GM. Actually, the move was made a while ago, prior to the NHL expansion draft.

However, Werier took to social media and proposed a three-team trade that would send Chris Kreider to the Detroit Red Wings, and JT Miller to the Rangers. Ultimately resolving the issue between him and Elias Pettersson.

To the Canucks: JT Compher (4x5.1), Ryan Lindgren (4.5/expiring), DET 2025 2nd, & the higher of DET's two 2025 3rds.

To the Rangers: JT Miller (4x8)

To the Wings: Chris Kreider (3x6.5)

The trade would see the Rangers giving up Chris Kreider and Ryan Lindgren to get JT Miller back. Then the Red Wings would have to trade JT Compher and two draft picks in the 2025 NHL Draft for Chris Kreider. Then finally, the Canucks would be giving up JT Miller to receive all the pieces.

Werier said that Miller's complete no-trade clause could definitely block a trade, however that will soon turn into a 15-team no-trade clause:

« You're surely right. But if you rephrase the return as «$3m longterm cap space and a late 1st» (an easy hop if DET's 2nd is in the 35 OA range) then you get close to your premium asset. Comes down to how much (if at all) you think the mkt value of VAN's asset has changed YTD.»

Definitely a confusing way to get the trade done, but this would cover many issues for the three organizations.

Especially for the New York Rangers as Chris Drury is desperate to shake up his roster in hopes to save the Rangers season, and give them the best chance at making the playoffs.
