The New York Rangers have made a major lineup transaction, as K'Andre Miller returns to the lineup. As a result of Miller's return, the Rangers have sent defenseman Chad Ruhwedel down to the Hartford Wolfpack.
The New York Rangers have sent defenseman Chad Ruhwedel back to the Hartford Wolfpack today.
The veteran defenseman played 4 games in K'Andre Miller's absence, with Ruhwedel being sent to the AHL, it's a sign that Miller could return to the lineup tomorrow against the Lightning.
During Miller's stint on IR, Ruhwedel played 4 games and would only net an assist, one point during his short stint in the NHL.
Ruhwedel picked up an assist against Carolina, but that was it, while averaging 14 minutes a night on the third pair. The Rangers won just once in those four games, but that's far from Ruhwedel's fault.
Ruhwedel didn't make enough of an impact for the Rangers to keep him in the lineup.
While Miller's return could serve as a reset, as he returns to take on
Brayden Point, and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
This season Miller has played only 28 games for the Rangers, and like his teammates has seen a decline in production.
His career year was in 2022-2023, under Head Coach Gerard Gallant, where he'd scored 43 points( 9 G, 34 A) in 79 games for the Rangers this year.
Miller will need to put extra effort on the ice if the team is to justify keeping him, as his name has been buzzing around trade talks.
At the end of this season, his contract will expire and he'll be an RFA.
Miller makes $3.872 Million AAV and could be due a raise with his next contract, an issue that could make him a cap casualty for the Rangers, who just signed
Igor Shesterkin to a massive, 8-year $11.5 Million deal.
In order for a team to keep a player's RFA status, they must provide a Qualifying Offer. If they do not provide a Qualifying Offer, the player becomes a UFA. Qualifying Offers must be provided to the player by the later of the Monday after the Entry Draft or June 25.
For the Rangers to retain Miller on RFA status they'll have to issue an offer of $4.646 Million AAV per PuckPedia.
