The New York Rangers have struggled through 2024-2025, as they've failed to achieve the same record that a season prior won them a President's Trophy. While the season hasn't ended, they're 7th in the Metropolitan Division. Peter Laviolette issued a statement, on the team's direction after the winter break.

The New York Rangers are 7th in the Metropolitan Division, with a 16-17-1 record and continuously, attempting to dig themselves out of the hole they've been in.

The team has been witness to superstars underperforming and a trade of former Captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks.

The winter break, albeit short is a way for the players and staff to power down and reset themselves before heading back out onto the ice. And tomorrow, the Rangers will take on the Tampa Bay Lightning, one of the top teams in the Atlantic.

Head Coach Peter Laviolette was asked about his mindset going into the next stretch of the season, after the break.

Laviolette undoubtedly wants to quiet down the rumor mill and get the team focused on winning games again.

The Rangers' last game was on December 23rd, against the New Jersey Devils, where they'd be shut out. The game marks a point in the team's decline, where they were unable to neutralize a rival's defense and a team they defeated in the playoffs not long ago.

The team does need a reset, and a new direction as they look like a team that belongs in a sports-comedy, like Major League or Slapshot compared to the NHL.

Laviolette needs to find a way to reconnect to his superstars and get them producing again.

The team alone can't rely on Artemi Panarin, and Igor Shesterkin to save the season, it's a non-starter.

For a team that started the season 12-4-0, the Tampa Bay Lightning shouldn't be an issue, and yet here we are.

You can never be complacent when it comes to Jon Cooper, or the Lightning.
