The Rangers have had a roller coaster of a season with the first half roaring out of the gates with a 12-4-0 record and closing out 2024 with one of the worst records in the NHL.
Miller likely to be next on the move from the Rangers
Seravalli explains that moving Miller is not out of the question as he offers several attributes that many teams would look for including size and his athleticism.
«With such a rare combination of size and athleticism, lots of teams would love to get their hands on the insanely gifted Miller. The flashes of brilliance are there, but he just hasn't been able to put it all together on a consistent enough basis.»- Frank Seravalli Daily Faceoff
Standing at six foot 5 and 210 lbs he would offer teams physicality in his play and would help create space and offense. He has been with the organization since 2018 after he was drafted 22nd overall.
Contract extension likely the factor for Rangers to move Miller
The second half of the NHL season has begun and many pundits including Seravalli feel that the Rangers have till February 1st to turn their season around which would be there self-imposed deadline.
The Rangers have a long road ahead to try to secure a playoff spot as several teams including the Detroit Red Wings, Montreal Canadiens and the Columbus Blue Jackets are all making pushes for a playoff spot.
Sam Carrick out of position. Kandre Miller doesn't tale the pass or the shot. Tied. Rangers are losers.
The 24-year-old defenseman is a restricted free agent and currently holds a $3.872 million cap hit. Many feel that the Rangers will not be able to sign him, and other teams may either send offer sheets or may sit out until he gets the money he's looking for.
Several teams immediately come to mind as potential suitors. The Edmonton
Oilers, always looking to bolster their blue line, could be an ideal fit. The Los Angeles Kings, with their deep prospect pool, could also make a strong push for Miller. - Dave Jenkins NHLtraderumours
Rangers expect many calls about Miller before trade deadline
This notion is the main driver why the Rangers may move him prior to the March trade deadline. Many teams will be lining up to acquire his services and several teams with an abundance of defensemen will likely try to make a deal with the Rangers.
The retooling of the Rangers has begun with several trades that have had occurred, but in the end it's likely that Drury wants to continue to remodel his team by moving some assets to strengthen other portions of his team for next season.
