NHL Reporter Links Three Surprising NHL Teams To Rangers Defenseman Ryan Lindgren
It's been reported by Adam Gretz of the Bleacher Report of three NHL teams that may be linked two Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren as his season continues to struggle.
Lindgren's numbers have been dismal all season ashe had returned from injury and appeared in 14 games so far.
The Rangers have struggled in scoring chances as they set 26th in the league header 27th in high danger scoring chances which is a troubling stat.
While holding a cap hit at $4.5 million and only a one year deal, it's likely he would need a change of scenery as he is an impending free agent next summer.
Firstly, the Edmonton Oilers come to mind as the team continues to struggle with their blue line after major reconfigurations were done during the offseason.
The team also has several players who could be available for trade including Viktor Arvidsson and Jeff Skinner who have also played poorly with the Oilers.
It's safe to say that general manager Stan Bowman would have no trouble sending either of these players to the Rangers.
Another western team who would benefit and who is always active in the trade market would be the Vegas Golden Knights.
To acquire his contract, there would be salary retention required which could hamper trade efforts but likely another player of similar value would need to head the other way to make the deal work.
Lastly, an Eastern Conference team, the Detroit Red Wings could be in the market for Lindgren as the teams' defensive struggles continues to plague them with a goal differential of -14 which puts them as one of the worst in the Eastern Conference.
One aspect of Lindgren's game is that he is usually reliable in his own end which would give him more attraction to several teams.
In the end, it's likely he will be moved at the trade deadline next March unless a deal that they cannot refuse with land in general manager Chris Drury's lap.
Only time will tell whether he will make a deal or keep him till the end of the year.
