In past years, it was custom for NHL general managers to trade their players to the opposite conference as they wished not to see the player as often as before.

That way if the player does succeed with their new team the chances of seeing them would be in the Stanley Cup final.

That trend seems to be shifting as the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames have shown that trades can be done within their own division with the moving of Elias Lindholm for Andrei Kuzmenko.

The Rangers appear to be interested in Flyers center Scott Laughton.

The 29-year-old has been having a solid season with the Flyers as he has appeared in all 55 games while scoring seven goals with 17 assists for 24 points and 46 penalty minutes.

The Rangers have been kicking tires all over the league trying to find the best deal they can to solve their 3C problem.

Even Sportsnet insider and 32 Thoughts podcaster Elliotte Friedman has a few thoughts on the idea of the Rangers and Flyers making a deal for Laughton.

He weighed in with Jeff Marek on The Jeff Marek Show.

In my opinion, with the injury to Filip Chytil Who will remain out for the remainder of the year, the Rangers are in desperate need of a player who will give them stability in their bottom 6.

Laughton could be that very player considering he has two more years of term after this season of $3,000,000 per year.

Even if Chytil returns next season this will give the Rangers excellent depth down the middle and could open other options for general manager Chris Drury to move other players to strengthen other positions.

In the meantime, I expect Drury to continue his search and to craft a good deal for the Rangers.
