Remy Mastey Of The Hockey News revealed the reasons why newly acquired Rangers forward Arthur Kaliyev was placed on waivers after a rocky relationship with the Los Angeles Kings.

The 23-year-old right winger began his time in the NHL strongly with the Kings as he recorded fourteen goals and 13 assist for 27 points through 80 games in 2021-22. Being a second rounder in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft, it's safe to say the Kings were pleased to have him.

After another productive season of 28 points in 56 games, it became clear that the relationship between the organization and Kaliyev became strained and became toxic as he began being scratched out of the lineup.

Early in the new year of 2024, TSN Darren Dreger reported that former Kings Head Coach Todd McLellan and Kaliyev were at odds after his playing time was reduced significantly.

"He's got to fit the team, okay," McLellan said. "I know some of you guys are nodding because you're around the group long enough and you get it. You have to work hard to fit. And you've got to be a good, and I'm not saying that Arthur's not a good teammate, but you've got to be able to fit and want to be successful. And when he does that, he'll play again."

The relationship between both parties continued to fail which led to the LA kings putting him on waivers which led up to the events to today. There's plenty of opportunity for Kaliyev to try to fit in with the Rangers as the team continues to pull
itself out from one of the worst slumps in team history.

With former Rangers forward Kappo Kakko now with the Seattle Kraken, this gives Kaliyev a chance to show his new head coach Peter Laviolette what he can bring to the table and help bolster their offense.

Having only a one-year deal at $825,000 is a steal as the Rangers did not have to give up any draft picks or any prospects to acquire the young winger.

The Rangers next game will be today on January 7th when they're at Madison Square Garden to take on the Dallas Stars. Game time will be 7:00 PM Eastern.
