As those teams fall more players become available and it appears that two former Rangers are high on the teams list for a team reunion.
Senators forward Vladimir Tarasenko and Saint Louis Blues forward Pavel Buchnevich could well be on the move over the next two weeks as their values are quite high and several teams including the Rangers have them pegged as potential pickups.
Both players are highly familiar with the Rangers as both played for the team. Senko played 31 games for the Rangers in 2022-2023 and scored eight goals for 13 assists for 21 points was a + 4.
If the Rangers feel he would be a good fit once again, he would be another deadline pickup and would help the Rangers on the third line and their power play.
Buchnevich, was drafted by the Rangers in 2013, in the third round, 75th overall.
He had modest years with the Rangers and his career only took a step forward after he left the organization and went to the Saint Louis Blues.
The Blues are currently in a retool or mini rebuild and would like to move Buchnevich as his value has never been higher.
There would be cap implications for both players and Chris Drury would need to do some juggling of the lines to make it all fit.
Both players would certainly help the Rangers now as the team is in a win now mode and needs to take advantage as soon as possible.
