The NHL All Star weekend and break has been deemed a success by many pundits and players as a great way to promote the game and give players much needed rest and pause.
Many who have been struggling throughout the opening four months of the season had a chance to get away unwind and mentally calm themselves as the second half of the season is set to begin.
Igor Shesterkin, has been enjoying his week in Toronto as his place showed during the All Star game where his team captain by Auston Matthews won the campaign with his help.
He had a chance to reflect on his past few months of struggles and gave an honest opinion on what he needs to do to get back on track.
«I need to turn around everything,» he said following Sunday's first practice back from the bye week at the MSG Training Center. "Do a 180."
"My numbers are not good, but I'm working hard," said the 28-year-old, who spent a few days in Miami before traveling with his wife and young son north of the border. "I think sometimes it's needing to be a little bit better; sometimes it's unlucky goals. I had a good time this week, and I think that helped me so much."
It's not fun to give up a first-shot goal, he said.
His last two months of play he has gone with a record of 9-8-1 and a save percentage of .899 which is far from what is needed to help the Rangers go on a long playoff run.
I expect he will turn things around as he is very capable and with the help of his teammates providing him better defence in front of him add more attention to detail defensively, I expect his numbers to rebound quickly.
The Rangers will get back to work as they play the Colorado Avalanche today February 5th and game time will be 7:00 PM eastern.
