Surprising team from the Atlantic Division has officially been linked to New York Rangers forward.

According to the Fourth Period, the Buffalo Sabres are starting to browse the trade market for talent to help bolster their roster, as they look to put an end to their 13-year playoff drought.

The one particular player the Sabres are interested in and have been connected to at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline is Rangers forward, Kaapo Kakko.

The Fourth Period even pointing out that even after Kakko signed his one-year deal earlier this offseason, he is still being used as "trade bait.»

It is completely understandable that the Sabres are still interested in the 23-year old forward, as he still has plenty of time to reach his full potential and improve his game, and maybe a change of scenery is exactly what he needs.

However, Kakko has been struggling, during the 2023-24 season he only managed 13 goals, six assists, and a plus-6 rating in 61 regular-season games. He then followed that up with just one goal, one assist, and a minus-4 rating in 15 playoff games.

If the Rangers and Sabres were to make a trade for Kakko, he would be a great fit for their middle six, and provide them with another option for their power-play.
