The New York Rangers reportedly face major obstacles In obtaining J.T. Miller from the Canucks
The New York Rangers are reported to be one of the teams who are interested in acquiring forward JT Miller from the Vancouver Canucks. Does GM Chris Drury have what it takes to make it happen?
The New York Rangers and GM Chris Drury are interested in prying JT Miller from the Vancouver Canucks grip.
In order to do so, the Rangers may have to dig deep in their pockets and pay a handsome price for the Canucks star.
His recent drama with teammate Elias Pettersson has put a target on his back, and GM Patrik Allvin will likely have to make a choice between the two soon.
The Canucks will miss out on Miller's production as he scored 103 points(37 G, 66 A) last season.
How likely is a trade between the Rangers and Canucks for Miller?
«I do think the Rangers are interested, but I don't know how easy that match is going to be,» Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts Podcast. «If Vancouver wanted to do Zibanejad and again Zibanejad has a no-move clause too, so he'd have to want to do it, I think that could be done already. I'm not banking on that.
«The guy I could see Vancouver really liking is Schneider, but I'm not convinced at all the Ranger would want to do that, as a matter of fact, I'm convinced they wouldn't just because I think they want to keep Schneider.»
While GM Chris Drury may have trouble moving Mika Zibanejad, he could find a way to move multiple prospects to acquire someone like Miller. Or he could try to move Zibanejad and give him a fresh start.
That would require Zibanejad to waive his no-movement clause. Considering the fact the Canucks have a shot at the playoffs, at 4th in the Pacific Division with an 18-11-8 record, it'd be an easy sell for someone like Zibanejad who wants to win a cup.
Either way, the Rangers would have to give up good assets in order to acquire the 100-point forward.
The Canucks Conundrum
The Canucks will want the locker-room situation to return to the status quo, as the spat has gone public.
Pettersson hasn't shied away from making comments in the media from Miller's critiques either.
A situation that could turn dire, and toxic if a trade isn't addressed soon.
"What I know is, and this is based on intel and sourcing from around the league, that yeah, there's been a lot more chatter, certainly around J.T. Miller," TSN's Darren Dreger said. If you were GM Chris Drury of the New York Rangers, would you trade for JT Miller?
