Gary Bettman facing a ton of backlash for poor scheduling ahead of the 16-game Frozen Frenzy
Tonight's Frozen Frenzy is gaining a lot of backlash as all 32-teams will be playing, leaving fans upset with the Gary Bettman and his scheduling choices.
The NHL's Frozen Frenzy, which consists of 16 games involving all 32 NHL teams playing at various times along with the New York Rangers taking on the Montreal Canadiens at 7:15PM.
Many fans are baffled with that fact that only one game was scheduled on Monday night between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Toronto Maple Leafs on Amazon Prime.
However the NHL is trailing behind the WNBA in viewership, leaving Bettman to schedule the Frozen Frenzy on the exact same night as the NBA's opening night.
All 16 games tonight have a different start time - an NHL first after two games coincided during Frozen Frenzy last year - including a puck drop every 15 minutes across 13 games over a three-hour span (from 6:30 p.m. ET to 9:30 p.m. ET).
Considering the NHL doesn't directly compete with the NBA/WNBA for viewers, so it doesn't make much sense to do this. Fans are also upset with Bettman after his recent announcement, that he will be canceling the televised NHL Awards show that they host every year, due to lack of interest from fans.
The National Hockey League seems to always start controversy with their decision, and need to do a better job at getting rating back to what they used to be.
