McDavid and Draisaitl share playoff spotlight with Gretzky and Lemieux
As their season draws to a close, NHL public relations tweeted a stat that Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl now share a playoff point stat with NHL legends Wayne Gretzky and Mario Lemieux.
They now sit as players who have 75 or more points through their first career 50 playoff games.
This season has been a turbulent one for the Oilers with their first two months being at the bottom of the standings not being able to win any games no matter how hard they played.
General manager Ken Holland decided to make a change and brought in rookie head coach Kris Knoblauch and Oilers legendary defenseman Paul Coffey as his assistant coach.
The effect was remarkable.
Both men gave the Oilers players a chance to breathe and show them how to turn things around. Coffey even showed his Stanley Cup ring to the players and ward on the bench as a symbol of what they're trying to accomplish.
The Oilers now sit in second in the Pacific division with 97 points and are still chasing the Vancouver Canucks for first place.
It's quite likely McDavid and Draisaitl along with their teammates will face off against the Vegas golden Knights once again which should prove to be an excellent first round matchup.
