Transaction: The Price to bring Jonathan Marchessault back to New York revealed
The New York Rangers may be benefactors of a Vegas Golden Knights salary cap issue. As the team only has $897, 516.00 in cap space to play with.
The Vegas Golden Knights have always been pressed against the cap and never been afraid to trade, sign, or let someone walk, including Marc-Andre Fleury.
The next victim could be Jonathan Marchessault, who will be due a raise and who Chris Drury could upgrade the top-six with immediately.
Chris Drury has a mandate to improve the top-six given their inability to close out important games, which Jonathan Marchessault could be a great addition and Stanley Cup champion to add to the roster.
As a UFA, and 42 goal scorer, Jonathan Marchessault will be due a raise that the Golden Knights can't afford at the moment.
What would Marchessault cost?
It's been projected that he could ask for a contract for 6-7 years of term, and $6.5 Million AAV.
«Jonathan Marchesseault is a roughly similar case, but he will cost a lot less than Stamkos. Jo will rightly want a 6-7 year pact around 6.5 million per season. He just scored 42 goals at age 33, a career high.
Marchesseault has what it takes in the shell briefs for the Montreal pot. He would be an incredible leader and inspiration for CH's young attackers and his experience in the playoffs for several seasons would be an extraordinary asset for the Canadian's great project.
Do Gorton & Hughes think like me? If so, they will make a sincere offer to Marchesseault and his advisors on July 1st..." - JiC Lajoie
Marchessault of course, won't come very cheap but could easily fill the role that Kaapo Kakko, or Filip Chytil couldn't during the regular season.
And he has a playoff pedigree, that not even Chris Kreider has.
While the team currently has $11.6 Million in cap space to play with, he could fit underneath the current salary cap and provide needed offense for the Rangers long-term plans.
In 82 games with the Vegas Golden Knights, Marchessault score 69 points( 42 G, 27 A) and won one Stanley Cup in 2022-2023.
