Capitals Alex Ovechkin held to zero shots in Game One
Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin had not seen this stat since 2018 when he was held shotless throughout an entire playoff game. That record was broken after the Rangers kept him at Bay as they went on to defeat his team 4-1 in Game One.
This is highly unusual for the 38-year-old star as he has been a machine over the past decade in terms of shots, goals and especially goals in the playoffs. To be held shotless during a game is a testament to the Rangers and how taking him out of the game deflated the capitals and allowed the Rangers to take over the game.
The Capitals have had a slow demise over the past several years as numerous players of their 2018 Stanley Cup win have either left the team due to trade or severe injury.
The Capitals come into these playoffs as the severe underdog and one of the most mismatched first rounds in the entire playoff. Capitals Rookie head coach Spencer Carbery along with his team willed themselves into the playoffs with the fewest goals for and the worst goal differential out of all playoff teams at -37.
If the Capitals expect to win any games during this series, it's vital that Ovechkin gets going by getting some shots on net. It's up to the Rangers to continue doing what they're doing and snuff him out to help get past the first round.
