Former first-round pick Oliver Wahlstrom's fate has officially been confirmed with the New York Rangers after being placed on waivers by the New York Islanders Friday afternoon.

The New York Islanders are off to just of a rough start as the Rangers, which has ultimately led to them making some major waiver moves as placed former first-round pick Oliver Wahlstrom on waivers.

The Islanders have placed two forwards on waivers, the first being Pierre Engvall who seems to be struggling in the NHL, and is likely to return to the AHL as he already has one completely season there.

The second option, and the more intriguing player is 24-year old Oliver Wahlstrom, who was the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Wahlstrom is a player with pretty decent size and good talent that the New York Rangers could really benefit from.

In Wahlstrom's first two seasons he showed lots of potential with 21 points and the 24 points, but since then the kid has hit a snag in performance, ultimately leading the islanders to place him on waivers.

However, the 24-year old still has plenty of potential and just needs a fresh start, which he will get as NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has confirmed he has been claimed off waivers by the Boston Bruins.

Boston claims Wahlstrom

Another missed opportunity from Chris Drury and the Rangers as they let a really affordable player slip away and sign with a different team. Even though the Rangers desperately need a change, especially after an embarrassing 5-1 loss to the L.A Kings.
