A significant update regarding New York Rangers veteran forward after retirement rumours.

Now that we are getting closer to August and most free agents have already signed with teams, but what's the deal with Blake Wheeler?

Blake Wheeler joined the Rangers organization last summer and managed to player 54 regular season games, and managed to tally 21 points, 9 goals, and 12 assists before suffering a nasty leg injury.

However, Wheeler did manage to return in the middle of the New York Rangers playoff run but only played a limited amount of games, leaving his future with the organization uncertain.

After the Rangers were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Finals to the Florida Panthers, the 37-year old veteran was unsure if he would be player this following year.

A statement released by Blake Wheeler himself:

«I have three kids: an 11-year-old, an 8-year-old, a 6-year-old. The 11-year-old's gonna be in middle school next year,» Wheeler said. «When you come to make those decisions now, I still love the game, still love to play, but I want to be around for their childhood, too, so I think those are the things you weigh.»

With August approaching in the couple of days, and no news regarding Wheeler making an officially retirement announcement, or that he has signed with the Rangers, this could mean that he his still searching for a new team.

Sadly he is not likely to be a top priority for many organizations as he is coming off a leg injury that most fans and teams would consider to be career ending

The next few months will be crucial to see what decision Blake Wheeler will end up choosing.
