Despite playing through the playoffs with a chunk of his ankle missing, it appears the attacks on his performance have resulted in a degradation of his mental health.
Trouba called out the Spittin' Chiclets Podcast, namely Ryan Whitney and Pasha Eshghi about the terrible things said about him.
He even hinted at his own mental health issues, speaking about a professional athlete who'd taken his own life, following a bout of mental illness.
While Trouba isn't the perfect player in any professional sport by far, suicidal thoughts are an issue. Professional sports players are under the microscope constantly, especially if teams fail to win important games and perform up to expectations 100% of the time.
His play style draws plenty of criticism, and honestly it isn't for everyone. Not to mention, his recklessness is cause for concern, but underlying criticisms, people can take it too far, as Spittin' Chiclets did.
He secured the 2023-2024 Mark Messier Award for leadership with the New York Rangers and was recognized for his positive contributions to the community where he resides.
There's a human underneath all of it, and Trouba has done his best to represent the less fortunate off-ice, a commendable trait.
