New York Rangers newly acquired defensman has been linked to a shocking Pacific Division team as NHL insiders of the Athletic reveal this teams has emerged as frontrunners.

The New York Rangers may have a chance to recoup their losses from trading former 1st-round pick Kaapo Kakko to the Seattle Kraken for Will Borgen, and a 3rd and 6th round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft.

The team will have to re-tool the roster on the fly, as they've failed to perform up to expectations this season.

With a record of 16-19-1 this season and sitting in very last place of the Metro division, GM Chris Drury wants to return the team to their winning ways.

He hasn't shied away from moving Kaapo Kakko, or Captain Jacob Trouba, and Will Borgen a pending UFA at the end of the season could be next. That is, if the Rangers can straighten out the situation in Madison Square Garden according to Pierre LeBrun and Chris Johnston of The Athletic.

Two teams have appeared as suitors for the 6'3" right-shot defenseman, and one of them is the Florida Panthers, and the other is the Vancouver Canucks.

With the Canucks weak on the right side with Filip Hronek out long-term, they could benefit from trading for the $2.7 Million AAV defenseman.

"The stay-at-home defender is a good skater who should be able to step into a second pairing on a team (like Vancouver) and brings the kind of size teams view as an added plus come playoff time. Borgen will have plenty of suitors ahead of the deadline, but there may not be anyone more motivated to pursue him than Vancouver," writes Johnston.

Borgen's ability to be on the penalty kill will strengthen the Canucks special teams while bolstering the blue line.

Borgen has averaged 17:35 in three games with the Rangers this season, and as a defensive-defenseman has provided ten hits.
