NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reveals Igor Shesterkin took a «discount» when he signed his contract extension with the New York Rangers.

On Friday, The New York Rangers officially signed Igor Shesterkin to an eight-year contract extension, shortly after trading their captain Jacob Trouba to the Anaheim Ducks.

Shesterkin and the Rangers have reached an agreement on an eight-year deal worth $92 million, with a $11.5M AAV ultimately making his the highest ever paid goalie in NHL history.

Elliotte Friedman confirmed that Shesterkin will receive $85 million worth in signing bonuses and has a full no-move clause throughout the entirety of the contract.

Some details we're hearing:

According to a couple other teams, he actually left money on the table -- but NYR really wanted to get this done, and Shesterkin ultimately wanted to stay

Friedman also revealed that Shesterkin «left money on the table» but the Rangers really wanted to get this over with, along with the 28-year old wanting to stay in New York.

Arthur Staple of the Athletic also reported that Shesterkin will get $54 million in the first four years of the contract and $30 million in the first two years.

Along with confirming what Friedman said about Shesterkin leaving money on the table so the team would have some room to maneuver.

Hearing Shesterkin gets $54 million in first four years of his new deal, $30 million first two years.

Full no move clause. Certainly could've gotten more, even from the #NYR if it'd gone longer, but Shesterkin wanted to leave team with some room to maneuver.

Here's what Rangers General Manager Chris Drury had to say about signing Shesterkin:

«With the contract we just signed him to, it speaks volumes to what I think of him We had no interest in seeing where the market went come July 1,» Drury said.

Clearly, Chris Drury wasn't willing to take the risk of Shesterkin leaving during free agency, which is ultimately the reason the deal was finalized now.
