The rumors were steady, and it appeared that the New York Rangers were on the verge of trading their captain Jacob Trouba to the Detroit Red Wings. But that trade failed to materialize, and it appears there are other reasons, personal reasons why Trouba may remain with the Rangers.
The Rangers were appearing to be prepared to trade Trouba to open more cap space to upgrade their defence. Several prominent defensemen were available at the time including Chris Tanev, Brett Pesce, Nikita Zadorov and Oliver Ekman Larsson who are now all on other teams.
Unfortunately, her residency was delayed by one year and will now begin on July 1st, 2025, coupled with the fact they have brought a new child into the world who is now nine months old certainly makes it difficult for Trouba to leave New York City.
Trouba has two years remaining on his deal and it's likely the Rangers will need to wait it out and potentially trade him with his final year on his contract. In the meantime, he will remain with the Rangers or otherwise and hopes that he continues to play the game that head coach Peter Laviolette and general manager Chris Drury hope he will bring.
