Even though the Colorado Avalanche aren't the same team they were in 2022, they're still tough. The New York Rangers found that out last night, as they lost 3-2 in overtime.

While they were only able to secure a point against the Colorado Avalanche, the effort wasn't good enough to get two.

They needed two to continue to gain ground in the tough Metropolitan Division, which they're now ranked 7th this season.

The team is 20-20-3 which is shameful, for a team who last year, conquered all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Florida Panthers.

Laviolette's frustration is shared with us all.

Playing a full 58, is something but if you can't finish, can you say you played well for a whole game?

But they remain 14th in the Eastern Conference, now five points behind the Columbus Blue Jackets for the second wild card and trail the Boston Bruins by six for the top wild card.

The Rangers need to continue to put together victories in order to even consider a legitimate approach to the Columbus Blue Jackets, who hold onto a wild-card spot in the Metropolitan Division.

Schneider's perspective offers a positive perspective:

«It's disappointing to lose, but I thought for 60 minutes I thought we were working,» Braden Schneider said. «We were battling hard. I thought we were creating lots of chances and I thought we were playing really good D. Things happen and they got a couple. It's good to get a point on the road here.»

No matter how hard-working you are, you need to keep pressing, especially against the Bednar-led Avalanche.

The team will have to finish their West Coast road trip, with a win over Utah in order to come close to the Blue Jackets' 48 points.
