Report: Igor Shesterkin doesn't plan on staying with the Rangers long-term?
With the news that Igor Shesterkin has rejected an 8-year, $11 Million dollar deal, which would make him the highest-paid goalie in the NHL, you have questions.
Carey Price currently makes $10.5 Million AAV, and this contract would place him right above the legendary Canadiens goalie.
According to some reports, it seems that Shesterkin wants a shorter deal, which could be 2 to 5 years.
From Cam Robinson:
It was reported that Igor Shesterkin didn't want to engage in contract negotiations with the Rangers during the season. This made GM Chris Drury's job a bit more difficult, as he'd have to find the money and an offer that would suit his goalie, who assumed he'd be here in New York long-term.
Well as reported by Kevin Weekes, the New York Rangers elite goalie, Igor Shesterkin rejected the 8-year, $11 Million deal, with a $88 Million total contract.
That means for now, GM Chris Drury and the Rangers will have to sit on their hands until the earliest moment in free agency when they can seal the deal.
The deal would've cemented Shesterkin as the highest-paid goalie in NHL history.
It seems Shesterkin is intentionally putting himself out there for the highest bidder in free agency what do you think?
Anyways here's Shesty's statement when training camp began in September:
«I love the team, I love the fans, so of course it will be great to stay here. But you never know what's going to happen,» Shesterkin said when training camp opened in September. «It's work for my agent,» Shesterkin said. «I just want to be focused on my game, on practice every day.»
