Trade proposals emerges from the Montreal Canadiens to acquire New York Rangers star

With the offseason in full effect, many teams are looking to make serious changes to their rosters. The Montreal Canadiens have made it clear that they're targeting Martin Necas and Trevor Zegras, however if that fails they need a backup plain.

So with that being said, New York Rangers star forward, Kaapo Kakko comes into play.

If Necas and Zegras are too expensive for the Canadiens to acquire, another great option would be for them to acquire Kakko as he's a cheaper option and desperately in need of a change of scenery.

What the trade exchange would look like:

Many sources have suggested it's truly over for Kaapo Kakko and his time with the New York Rangers. Considering throughout this season he hasn't proven himself and even got benched during the Rangers playoff run.

"Swapping Kaapo Kakko this summer is an obvious gesture for the Rangers."

So what the Canadiens propose is their defenseman Justin Barron and a 2024 2nd round pick, in exchange for Kaapo Kakko.

22-year old defenseman Justin Barron, was the 25th overall pick of the 2020 NHL entry draft, and has finished this season with only 13 points ( 7 goals, 6 assists) in 48 games.

Even with his stats not being the greatest, the Rangers could definitely benefit from this trade as it would clear up Cap space and give them more room to acquire someone better than Kaapo Kakko.
