In less than 24 hours the news had swung from a potential coaching free agent in Rod Brind 'Amour of the Carolina Hurricanes to now a possible long-term signing as TSN's Darren Dreger reports that the Hurricanes have no desire to see Brind 'Amour leave the team and that an extension will get done.

It became clear that this story was heating up quickly and as the rest of the NHL learned of a divide between the owner Tom Dundon and general manager Tom Waddell who was overridden and forced to start over in trying to sign a deal.

Knowing the possibility of Brind Amour been available as a free agent coach would have every NHL team lining up to sign him to a long-term deal as his coaching style and his ability to take his team well into the playoffs has been noted by many. He has taken the Hurricanes past the first round in four of his last five seasons and he has also taken the team into the conference final twice.

It's widely expected that he will be locked up for the long term and it remains to be seen on what Dundon will pay him as Dundon has been known to give lower amounts of money based on loyalty and leverage to keep people in the organization.

Brind Amour along with his hurricanes are preparing to play the New York Rangers in round two which is set to begin on May 5th.
