One of the greatest New York baseball players ever has sadly passed away at 93.

Willie Mays, well known from his iconic 'Say Hey Kid' nickname, has suddenly passed away at the age of 93.
"My father has passed away peacefully and among loved ones," Michael Mays said in a statement released by the Giants. "I want to thank you all from the bottom of my broken heart for the unwavering love you have shown him over the years. You have been his life's blood."

Mays was definitely a ‘one of a kind' player, and was even deemed to be ‘one of the greatest to ever do it' according to MLB in the saddened report they released of his passing.
Mays will always be remembered by shaping the dynamic play of baseball throughout generations, leading the way for many kids to be inspired by the game.
"All of Major League Baseball is in mourning today as we are gathered at the very ballpark where a career and a legacy like no other began," Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. "Willie Mays took his all-around brilliance from the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro American League to the historic Giants franchise. From coast to coast in New York and San Francisco, Willie inspired generations of players and fans as the game grew and truly earned its place as our National Pastime."

Willie Mays had even gave a statement to Dusty Baker to share with the city of Birmingham, the day before he passed.
«I wish I could be with you all today.
This is where I'm from. I had my first pro hit here at Rickwood as a Baron in
1948. And now this year 76 years later, it finally got counted in the record books. Some things take time, but I always think better late than never. Time changes things. Time heals wounds, and that is a good thing. I had some of the best times of my life and Birmingham so I want you to have this clock to remember those times with me and remember all the other players who were lucky enough to play here at Rickwood Field in Birmingham. Remember, time is on your side.»

On behalf of everyone at NY Rangers Insider our condolences to the fallen legend, Willie Mays.
