Blockbuster trades are what fans wait for especially as the NHL trade deadline approaches.

These kinds of trades are great measuring sticks for the fans on how they can craft the deal and see if they can improve the teams they run.
The fallout continues to spread across the NHL after the Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames made a blockbuster deal tonight sending Elias Lindholm to the Canucks in exchange for Andrei Kuzmenko along with a package of picks and prospects.
Whats's striking about this deal is that the Flames only sent one player to the Canucks and received a first round pick in 2024 and a conditional 4th round pick in 2024 along with a player in Kuzmenko who has term on his deal.
This will favour the flames as it's clear they're willing to do a retool or rebuilding of their roster.
The other component is that the Canucks only received one player in Lindholm who remains an unrestricted free agent after this season's over.
This trade clearly was a rental trade for the Canucks as there's been no indication of a contract extension being negotiated between the Canucks and Lindholm which signals to the fan base that they're pushing their chips to the middle and going all in for a Stanley Cup run this year.
It's widely expected the Canucks are not done in terms of moves as they continued to shape their roster and hats off to general manager Patrik Allvin who just asked himself a new multi year deal with the Canucks in securing a piece that will help them in their top 6.
Some will feel this is an overpayment for a rental and only time will tell on whether this is the case. But after having two dismal seasons and the Canucks clearly stacking themselves to make their run this is the price they need to pay to try to win now.
