The New York Rangers had a shot at depth defensemanAlec Regula, who was placed on waivers yesterday, by the Boston Bruins. After recovering from knee surgery Regula was activated and waived, and the Edmonton Oilers made their claim.

The Boston Bruins and GM Don Sweeney were quick to activate and place Alec Regula on waivers. With the course correction provided by new Head Coach Joe Sacco, the Bruins look tidy on both ends of the ice, giving Jeremy Swayman a chance to win a game.

While the Rangers could always use more help on the blue line, GM Chris Drury didn't attempt to claim Alec Regula off of waivers.

No reason was made, and Regula himself may not be the player the Rangers need to win games.

Nevertheless, GM Stan Bowman and the Edmonton Oilers would make quick work of Regula's availability and added him to the roster.

Regula is a career AHLer and played 55 games with the Providence Bruins last season scoring 26 points( 4 G, 22 A), and he has played only 22 NHL games during his entire career scoring 1 point( 1 G).

When Regula can expect to touch NHL ice next is anybody's guess. The 6'4″, 211-lb righty made 22 NHL appearances while with Chicago, scoring one goal and logging a -5 rating while averaging 16:54 per game. Initially a 2018 third-round pick of the Red Wings, he's firmly established himself as a top two-way threat at the AHL level, but has yet to demonstrate marginally positive possession impacts in his NHL minutes.

The Boston Bruins acquired defensemen Alec Regula, and Ian Mitchell in return for Nick Foligno and Taylor Hall.

The deal worked out quite nicely for the Blackhawks as they have their new Captain Nick Foligno, and Taylor Hall may prove to be a nice trade piece for the rebuild.

Instead, the New York Rangers are focused on the trouble within as they have traded away former Captain Jacob Trouba while dealing with an accusation of tampering by the Ottawa Senators.

The team is 14-12-1 and 5th in the Metropolitan Division, a division they dominated only a year prior.

They could use more help on the blue line, as the ranks have been diminished by attrition and trades.

While Regula may not have been the right solution, keeping your minor-leagues stocked with talent is never a bad idea.

Especially if they make league minimum($775K) like Regula does.
