Hurricanes Making A Goalie Change Ahead Of Game 3 Vs. Rangers
After Frederik Andersen started the first seven games of the postseason, head coach Rod Brind'Amour confirmed Pyotr Kochetkov will start Game 3 for the Carolina Hurricanes.
Brind'Amour on his decision to turn to Kochetkov tonight:
"Freddie's played really well, but he's also played a lot. I think giving him a little rest is the best thing."
From the players-only meeting in December until the end of the regular season, the 24-year-old went 19-7-3 with a .923 save percentage. Of all NHL goalies who played 30 games or more during that time, only Connor Hellebuyck and Joey Daccord had a better save percentage (.924).
This will invoke bad memories in Rangers fans minds. Last season, the Devils changed goalies after losing the first two games, switching from Vitek Vanecek to Akira Schmid, eventually winning the series in 7.
This is a different Rangers squad compared to the disappointment of last season. Plus, we have a coach in Peter Laviolette that will make all the necessary adjustments if things go sour. Game 3 is tonight in Raleigh as the Rangers look to take a stranglehold 3-0 series lead.
