it was reported that he rejected a deal just a few hours prior involving the Columbus Blue Jackets.
After the Anaheim deal was completed which saw defenseman Urho Vaakanainen, general manager Don Waddell of the Blue Jackets went on to the Donnie and Dhali show to explain that there were discussions that were ongoing with general manager Chris Drury.
It was clear that Waddell was interested in acquiring the defenseman, but Trouba had no interest in going to Columbus. After July 1st, Trouba's no movement clause became a modified no trade which likely had Columbus on that list.
Some felt this was a surprise considering that Ohio's tax situation is far better then what California has to offer as it's one of the highest paying income tax states in America. It became clear that the allure for living in Southern California was the destination for Trouba.
ESPN Emily Kaplan revealed that more teams were also in the mix for Trouba including the Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators, Buffalo Sabres and the Blue Jackets.
But Anaheim won out the trade and decided to take on his entire contract without any retention.
It likely means that the Rangers are not done trading their roster as they have possessed now over $7,000,000 in cap space and will likely make more moves soon to help enhance their team and retool its image while it stabilizes its game.
The Rangers have also mentioned that Chris Kreider is on the block, and it remains to be seen on whether this is just an empty threat or an actual trade ship that could help augment a teams playoff hopes or help become part of their core.
It's safe to say that Drury and the Rangers are not done and there are more trades to come in the next few days to a week.
