The Rangers are 7th in the Metropolitan Division, with a 16-17-1 record, and have given up 13 of their last 17 games.
The team has been in multiple slumps this season, with key players checking out for the year, and Peter Laviolette relying on depth forwards to provide offense.
NHL Insider Arthur Staple of The Athletic has reported that other names have dropped as possible trade candidates.
Of them, newly acquired defenseman Will Borgen is one, and so is Ryan Lindgren as both are pending UFA's and could draw interest from contending NHL teams.
Lindgren could use a fresh start and has been injury-prone the last few seasons, and Borgen could be flipped for picks and prospects at the deadline.
Other defenseman who are RFA's and could fetch a great return are mentioned, like K'Andre Miller, and Zac Jones.
With K'Andre Miller's potential upside, and RFA status could be desirable with teams who can afford to make the move. Miller's lack of consistency has put him on the trade block.
While Zac Jones has yet to find a spot in the lineup hand has found him in the 7th D position, could find more playing time elsewhere in the league.
The last name to appear on the list is depth forward Jimmy Vesey whose production has dried up recently.
Vesey has played 19 games and scored 4 points( 1 G, 3 A) this season and could find a fresh start in the NHL after the roster freeze is lifted.
Moving him would give a younger player a spot in the bottom six.
Vesey makes $800K and while his cap hit isn't a huge blip on the radar, the cost savings would be useful for other moves.
