Major Development: New York Rangers sign newly acquired defenseman to lengthy contract extension
Several NHL insiders have just announced that the New York Rangers have agreed to a significant contract extension with their newly acquired defenseman.
According to insiders, like Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman and several other Rangers insiders, Chris Drury and the New York Rangers have reached an agreement on a contract extension with newly acquired defenseman Will Borgen.
The 28-year old defenseman was dealt in a trade earlier this season, that seen Rangers former first round pick Kaapo Kakko go to the Seattle Kraken, in return for Will Borgen and a few draft picks.
The finalized deal appears to be a 5-year contract worth a total of $20.5 Million, which works out to be a $4.1 Million AAV.

NHL Insider Peter Baugh has also revealed some further details on the trade, as Borgen now has a no-movement clause for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, along with partial trade protection for the remainder of his contract.
As part of Will Borgen's deal, he has a no-movement clause the rest of 2024-25, then partial trade protection for most of the rest of the deal, per a source.
2025-26: Full no-trade
2026-27: 15 team no-trade lost
2027-28: 10 team NT list
2028-29: 6 team NT list
2029-30: none
Will Borgen has truly proven himself to be a solid defender this season, and that's something the Rangers desperately needed.
