Massive one-for-one blockbuster trade between the Rangers and Canucks has reportedly failed

GM Chris Drury is willing to do anything to get Center JT Miller to return to Madison Square Garden. His latest trick was to send former 1C Mika Zibanejad to Vancouver in a one-for-one trade. It failed.
The trade itself seems like it'd be a earnest swap, that is if Mika Zibanejad was anywhere near the player we're using to seeing.
However, this season we've seen Zibanejad score 24 points( 8 G, 16 A) in 39 games for the Rangers. A 50 point pace for the forward who has been an elite forward during his time with the Blueshirts.
The forward had his career year under Gerard Gallant, scoring 91 points in 2022-2023 and has faltered since then.
Drury was unable to pry JT Miller from the Canucks hands, and given Zibanejad's reputation this season, it's understandable why GM Patrik Allvin would shoot the offer now.
«Earlier this season, the Rangers offered struggling center Mika Zibanejad to Vancouver in return for Miller,» Josh Yohe of The Athletic wrote. «The Canucks turned down the offer.»
Zibanejad and Miller both have a similar cap hit, as Zibanejad has an AAV of $8.5 Million. In contrast Miller would give the Rangers some breathing room, at $8.0 Million.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman even hinted at the idea that if Vancouver wanted Zibanejad in a trade, Miller might already be in New York.
«If Vancouver wanted to do that, they could have done it already,» Friedman said about a potential trade for
J.T. Miller. «And don't forget, ZIbanejad has a no-move clause (NMC) as well.»
Why would Allvin help the Rangers out when you compare the forwards?
And in 29 games played for the Canucks Miller has been a point-per-game player with 29 points( 8 G, 21 A). It really does look like while it's comparable, Miller is a verified 100-point player.
And GM Chris Drury is right to covet him, but it might take more than Zibanejad to lure him away from Vancouver at this point in time.
