Unfortunate update: Rangers veteran's injury status goes from bad to worse following latest development
The New York Rangers have received some very unfortunate news this morning as they hit the ice for their morning skate, as several reports have confirmed Chris Kreider's status just went from bad to worse.
Back on Sunday afternoon the New York Rangers confirmed that the 33-year old veteran Chris Kreider's would not join the team as they
faced off against the Chicago Blackhawks due to suffering an upper-body injury and was listed day-to-day.
UPDATE: Chris Kreider (upper body, day-to-day) will not play today.
No Chris Kreider for #NYR warmups, team says he's day-to-day with an upper-body injury
News like this is never a good thing, as the Rangers desperately need all the help they can get, so losing a veteran player is never ideal.
Unfortunately, it seems like his situation may have gotten worse as the New York Rangers have just placed the veteran on Injured Reserve (IR), retroactive to Sunday.
Good morning from Greenburgh. #NYR say Chris Kreider is on injured reserve (upper body), retroactive to Sunday. Also,
Igor Shesterkin is participating in the morning skate.
Along with that, there has been several talks about who will take Chris Kreider's spot in the lineup until he returns. That player being 23-year old enforcer Matt Rempe, once he returns from his suspension.
Kreider on IR retroactive to Sunday. Would expect a Rempe recall. If he is up tonight, would be eligible to play on Thursday against NJD.
Also, we're hearing Matt Rempe, who was sent to Hartford yesterday, will be recalled to fill Kreider's spot. He has one game left to serve in his eight-game suspension.
However, nothing has been confirmed as to who will take Kreider's spot in the lineup tonight. It could possibly be
Jonny Brodzinski, or the newly acquired forward
Arthur Kaliyev.
The Rangers are set to face off against the Dallas Stars tonight at 7:00PM on home ice at Madison Square Garden.
