NHL Insider Larry Brooks isn't a fan of how the New York Rangers have handled Chris Kreider's status. In what could've been taking Kreider out of the lineup due to a back injury, the team classified it as a "healthy scratch". Now with the veteran on IR, he's accusing the Rangers of disrespecting Kreider.
It's hard not to see the point NHL Insider Larry Brooks has made with his statement today on "X".
The Rangers held the lifelong Rangers out of the lineup against their Hudson River rivals, the New Jersey Devils.
The incident would fuel speculation that the team was ramping up efforts to trade the forward who hasn't had his best season in 2024-2025.
While we know Drury hasn't walked back Kreider's name on the trade market, it seemed as if they were managing the player's health by keeping him out of the lineup, as we know he's had a bad back this season.
Brooks calls out GM Chris Drury and the team for emphasizing the healthy scratch, instead of being truthful about the situation.
To what purpose are they managing the perception of Kreider? It seems like it's not for Kreider's benefit.
The 33-year-old specified that he's been dealing with back spasms, which is the reason for his absence from the lineup.
«Back locked up on me - Sacrum. Few games back it was lumbar,» Kreider said via Mollie Walker of The New York Post.
Kreider hasn't played like himself this season, and a lingering injury such as back spasms could be the explanation for the lack of production and playmaking this season.
In 34 games Kreider has scored 15 points(12 G, 3 A) with a - 8 rating.
