It appears that Lyle Fitzsimmons of the Bleacher Report states that Kaapo Kaako of the Rangers has been linked to a trade to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Kakko's season has not gone to plan, and he has been slipping down the depth chart for the past several months. Selected second overall in the 2019 entry draft, Kaako has not been able to find the consistency that general manager Chris Drury and head coach Peter Laviolette is looking for.

Fitzsimmons explains that the Hurricanes are looking at the potential of leveraging his restricted free agency status as the Hurricanes may offer sheet Kakko or even potentially have a three-team deal.

The Hurricanes have some flux of their own in their lineup and their front office as former general manager and president Don Waddell resigned from his post and became the head of hockey OPS for the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The Hurricanes also have several restricted and unrestricted free agents they need to look after which could lead to other teams poaching them from their roster.

It's safe to say that Kakko could use a change of scenery as it may help his development in the NHL, in the meantime, he remains with the Rangers as the team prepares for their elimination game in Game 6 as they're back home at MSG.

Game time will be at 8:00 PM eastern on June 1st.
