Projected lineups for the New York Rangers against the Detroit Red Wings
The New York Rangers have to use tonight to bounce back from their devastating loss in Buffalo.
The team gave up 6 goals, and Igor gave up 5 that night. Since then Head Coach Laviolette has gone back to the drawing board to find the perfect lineup.
Tonight in the net, the Rangers will have Jonathan Quick starting the night as Igor Shesterkin will get a rest.
Chris Kreider is moved up to the 2nd line in the lineup, while Will Cuylle finds himself in familiar territory.
Laviolette has reunited one of the best Rangers lines this season, with Filip Chytil once against centering Cuylle, and Kaapo Kakko.
The Cuylle-Chytil-Kakko line earlier in the season had anXG% of 64.7 and was the best for the Rangers this season.
xG value is the statistical chance of the unblocked shot to become a goal.
xG is literally the most direct way to measure shot quality that exists, given the current Play-By-Play data.
So hopefully this should bode well for the Rangers tonight.
The defensive pairs look to be unchanged tonight, as Ryan Lindgren-Adam Fox remains.
Despite this fact according to MoneyPuck the Rangers had the best-expected goals percentage on the ice at 68.7%.
Hopefully, the Rangers come out with a "W" as Peter Laviolette hasn't relented on using the line blender lately.
Husso should be easy pickings for the Rangers tonight.
Status report:
The Red Wings did not hold a morning skate Saturday following a 3-1 loss at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday.
Husso will start for the first time since being pulled after allowing four goals on 14 shots in a 6-3 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Oct. 10.
