New York Rangers divisional rival Ethan Bear speaks out for the first time regarding his time in the NHL Player Assistance Program.

In a recent interview with Sammi Silberman of The Hockey New, Washington Capitals defenseman Ethan Bear opened up about his progress in the NHL Player Assistance Program and how it's helped him.

"The thing is, I didn't even know. I didn't know about it until I went, and I think it's crazy to me that I had no idea and I was probably dealing with it for years without any idea at all. I guess it could not necessarily be a scary thing, but a hard thing to see in yourself," Bear said.

The 27-year old defenseman entered the Player Assistance Program after suffering a shoulder injury, and ultimately having a rough time recovering from it.

"You know what? I had to go," he said honestly. "It was just... it was the best thing for me. That's all I could say."

However, good news comes out of this, as Bear is now out of the Player Assistance Program and is focusing on returning with the Capitals for this upcoming season.
