The worst has been confirmed for New York Rangers biggest divisional rivals as they receive some devastating injury news regarding their goaltender.

During Wednesday night's matchup between the New Jersey Devils and Boston Bruins, Jacob Markstrom suffered an unfortunate injury as Bruins Justin Brazeau crashed into him.

Markstrom was immediately in visible pain as he laid face first on the ice, and needed assistance to make it back to the Devils' dressing room.

Following the game Devils head coach Sheldon Keefe provided a devastating update by revealing that Jacob Markstrom will indeed be sidelined with an injury.

Said he's in good spirits and he's feeling a lot better now than he was before, but he's going to miss some time.

But now, the Devils organization has officially confirmed the worst for Markstrom as he will be out for approximately 4-6 weeks with a MCL sprain.

#NEWS: Goaltender Jacob Markstrom underwent imaging on Thursday, which indicated an MCL sprain. He will be out approximately four to six weeks.

Markstrom will miss the remainder of the club's games leading into the Four Nations break.

He will begin a rehab program under the
guidance of the Devils' athlete care staff.

Truly a significant loss for the Devils as Markstrom has been on fire this season as he has posted a 2.20 GAA and a save percentage of .912 in just 36 games (21 W, 9 L).
