The New York Rangers will sorely miss their best prospect, who has been a mainstay in Hartford.

Despite a great weekend for the Wolfpack, the team will be without their best player, Brennan Othmann.

Othmann would succumb to an upper-body injury after a 5-4 OT win, on Saturday. The 21-year-old forward would contribute to the victory against the Bridgeport Islanders in the XL Center.

Othmann would originally be hurt during the team's win against the Springfield Thunderbirds, which saw the Wolfpack put their claws into the birds, for a 6-5 finish.

Othmanncontributed two goals against the Thunderbirds that night and would exit the game unceremoniously.

The 2021 1st round pick of the New York Rangers had been a key part of the Wolfpack's victories this weekend.

He'd post four points( two goals, two assists) in 3 games, following his four points( one goal, three assists) in six preseason games with the Rangers.

According to Grant Potulny, Othmann will miss a significant amount of time, as he will be out 4-6 weeks as a result of the upper-body injury.

Othmann was thought to have made the Rangers regular lineup this season, but Peter Laviolette and the Rangers sent him down to the AHL.

«I thought he had a good camp,» Laviolette said. «There were games where I thought he was noticeable. With regard to becoming a regular, just finding that consistency. I think when you are a young player, that consistency inside of your game is something that needs to be worked on. He came in great shape, that was good. He had some good moments, that was good too. The fact that he can play both sides is a positive.

«At the end of the day from a development standpoint I think going down there and taking on the minutes and playing more in every situation is going to help him to get back to this level. I think just finding that consistency inside of his game.»

Should the current Rangers core make it beyond the 2024-2025 season, it seems like that he'd get a call up next year.
