Remy Mastey of The Hockey News is reporting that Bryce McConnell Barker is ready to take the next step in his game and to be ready for opening night of the new season for the Rangers.
Having played for several seasons with the Soo Greyhounds in the Ontario Hockey League, it's becoming clear that he would like to be a full time member of the Rangers.
«I've gotten a taste of pro hockey,» McConnell-Barker said. «Just trying to put my best foot forward here, make a good impression, and try and make the big squad this year.»
The 20-year-old centre who stands at six foot 2 and 194 lbs was drafted in the 2022 entry draft, third round, 97th overall. According to eliteprospects.com they mentioned that his supporting game is his biggest asset he has a strong understanding of the shutdown game and can show strong positioning while shutting down the opposition.
During the 2023-2024 season, McConnell Barker played 52 games for the Greyhounds, scoring 22 goals with 29 assists for 51 points while having 22 penalty minutes. During their playoff run, he played eleven games and had 15 points and 17 penalty minutes.
«I feel like I think the game really well,» McConnell-Barker said «I think I have a good hockey IQ and can make plays at a really high level. I think I skate well, good shot, just an overall really good player and I like to play the game two ways. Offense, defense, I think I can
The Rangers now entered their rookie camps and it's likely that general manager Chris Drury along with head coach Peter Laviolette and his coaching staff will take a strong look at McConnell Barker to see if he is ready to take the next step in his game.
The likelihood of the Rangers remains up in the air but it's more than likely he will be playing for the Hartford Wolf Pack this coming season.
