Without a doubt it's no secret that the Rangers desperately need a winger, and that's they are likely to browse the free agent market this summer.
However, two forwards have emerged as potential targets for the New York Rangers this offseason, as a recent report from Peter Baugh of the Athletic suggests the Rangers are likely to target Tyler Toffoli and Max Pacioretty.
The New York Rangers pursued Toffoli at the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, but unfortunately a deal wasn't reached. However, with Toffoli wanting to the test market, the Rangers will get another shot at being him to New York.
If a deal was made and Toffoli was to sign with the Rangers, he would easily be an outstanding addition to their top six forwards.
During the 2023-24 regular season, Toffoli achieved 55 points (33 goals, 22 assists) in 79 games played, and only 2 goals in 5 postseason games, after being eliminated by the Colorado Avalanche in the first round.
Another option for the Rangers is veteran forward Max Pacioretty, as they were also in on him before he elected to finish this past season with the Washington Capitals.
While Pacioretty isn't as exciting as Toffoli, he would still have plenty of potential to be a solid middle-six forward for the organization. We could also see his offensive skills go back up if he was to join a much more talented team like the Rangers.
Max Pacioretty has had a decent year considering the injuries he faced, with putting up 23 points (4 goals and 19 assists) in just 47 games played, and only 1 assists in the postseason.
However, only time will tell if the Rangers will end up lading either one of these two this offseason.
