The New York Rangers have just announced an unexpected roster transaction as they assign forward to the Hartford Wolf Pack after they claimed Arthur Kaliyev off of waivers from the Los Angeles Kings.

The Rangers have just recently claimed 23-year old forward Arthur Kaliyev off waivers from the Los Angeles Kings.

However, while doing so they also announced that 23-year old forward Matt Rempe would be reassigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.

UPDATE: Matt Rempe has been assigned to the Hartford Wolf Pack.

As one Rangers reporter, Mollie Walker of the New York Post, pointed out his move was just so the Rangers remain cap compliant for Tuesday nights game against the Dallas Stars.

#NYR send Matt Rempe to Hartford in order to be cap compliant for tomorrow's game vs. Stars.

He still has one game left to serve on his 8-game suspension when he's called back up to NHL, but he's eligible to play in the AHL.

Another issue pointed out by Walker was Rempe's suspension. Back on December 22nd, 2024 Matt Rempe received an 8-game suspension for elbowing and boarding Miro Heiskanen of the Dallas Stars. But Rempe now only has one game remaining of that suspension.

This doesn't mean that this is the end of Matt Rempe being with the Rangers, as it was stated by Emily Kaplan of the NHL Network that the Rangers love him, and his work ethic and attitude.

Rempe has played 5 games this season for the Rangers and scored 0 points. While in the AHL with the Hartford Wolfpack, he's fared better scoring 5 points( 3 G, 2 A) in 18 games.

Rempe should attempt to return to the NHL as soon as possible, as his recent suspension cost him a significant amount of cash, as he lost $80K in pay for elbowing Heiskanen.

Do you think Matt Rempe deserves to be in the New York Rangers lineup once his suspension is over?
